Maddy Szalay
Integrative Chiropractor
I spent most of my childhood and teenage years stuck in cycle after cycle of poor health and injury. It was frustrating and depressing and boring and worst of all, I didn’t even realise how bad I actually felt. I thought it was normal to feel that way. Doctors told me there was nothing wrong with me, even though I was experiencing chronic injuries, allergies and digestive troubles like reflux (as a 10-year-old!). Ultimately, this all turned around once I started seeing a chiropractor when I was 16 (much to my surprise), and my life became easier and more enjoyable now that I wasn’t feeling terrible all the time. The other thing that really changed for me was my approach to health. I became unstuck from the medically minded attitude of “wait until something is broken, then patch it up”. I realised that health and wellness is all about living your life in a way that nurtures your body and mind, and consequently preventing disease and ill-health.
This is what I want to change in the world. I want to help people, especially kids, see that they can feel amazing most of the time, and that when they don’t, there are ways to get that feeling back again.
I went to Macquarie University and completed a Bachelor of Chiropractic Science in 2006 and then graduated with a Masters of Chiropractic in 2009. However, this level of training wasn’t enough to allow me to truly make those kinds of changes for people. I wanted to know more. I went to many seminars, conferences and courses, and am now also qualified in:
- Applied Kinesiology (AK)
- Neuro Emotional Technique (NET)
- Retained Neonatal Reflexes (RNRs)
- Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT)
- Assessment of Body Biochemistry and Nutrition
Working with children and families is one of my loves, using a holistic approach to helping with behavioural and learning difficulties, fatigue, hormonal imbalances and stress/anxiety disorders.
I see young kids and adults alike feeling unmotivated and unsure of themselves.
I see people battling all manner of health complaints, yet unknowingly contributing to making themselves feel worse each and every day.
I want to educate people, to show them easy ways to make their lives happier, healthier and more fulfilling.
Dave and I founded Beyond Self to serve the community we love, and allow us to help others find and live their best lives.
